Florida Coastal Cleanup 2008 Cleanup is Sept. 20 The Friends is a sponsor of the Florida Coastal Cleanup which is held in September each year. Our members help with publicity, recruiting volunteers, registration at the event, and clean up activities. We have volunteers on Shell Island, the beach on the mainland, divers in the water, and trail walkers who, on Coastal Cleanup Day, collect more than one ton (2,000 pounds) of trash.
